This year, Rockstar Games is hosting the Annual Skyscraper Cycling Classic in Harlem, New York City.

Amateurs and Olympians alike will descend upon Harlem’s Marcus Garvey Park on Father’s Day, June 20th to compete in the 37th annual David Walker Memorial Harlem Skyscraper Cycling Classic. As we’ve mentioned before, cycling is a major passion for a lot of the Rockstar staff in New York. Sponsoring the race for a second consecutive year gives us the opportunity to mix our enthusiasm for cycling with an event that enriches the community.

This year’s David Walker Memorial Pro/Am and children’s races have also been designated as NYC Mayor’s Cup events, awarding the winners of each division with an NYC Mayor’s Cup and title of “Fastest Riders in New York City.” The NYC Mayor’s Cup is a program of NYC & Company’s Sports Marketing Department, which was recently revamped to include more sporting events than ever throughout New York City.

The race day will begin with a series of Children’s and Community Races from 12:00 to 1:00 PM. Each child who competes will be given a free helmet and t-shirt courtesy of the New York City Department of Transportation. Winners of the Children’s Races will each receive a free bicycle.

The United States Olympic Committee has named the Harlem Cycling Classic as the New York City representative for the worldwide Olympic Day celebration. A ceremony will be held during the children’s races between the hours of 12 – 1 PM.

Adding to the block party atmosphere throughout the day is a tentative lineup of live performances by hip-hop icons Biz Markie, DJ Mister Cee (as heard on Grand Theft Auto IV’s The Beat 102.7 radio station) and others to be announced. New York City’s famed Wafels & Dinges and Frites & Meats food trucks will also be on hand providing delicious eats for all in attendance. Jumbotron screens and a series of amateur races will warm up the crowd for the David Walker Memorial pro/am at 4 PM.

Members of the Rockstar Games staff will also be on-hand with Rockstar-branded merchandise – look for us near the start/finish line.

Strap on a parachute in The Ballad of Gay Tony and use the PC version’s in-game suite of video editing tools to make the most creative contest entry clip you can. A balls-out short action film? A base jumping commercial? An aerial music video? A creative montage of parachute stunts? We know you’ll amaze and surprise us as always.

Firstly, I’ll have to thank Samuel (Xbox LIVE GamerTag: LospROpHETS) for writing this guide. (To Samuel: I apologise that I have neglected to post it for a long time!) Since Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City has been out for about 1-2 weeks now on the PlayStation 3 and PC, most are going for the “Gold Star” achievement/trophy. This should be of great help in your quest in doing so.

Useful Tips:

• It will help you a lot if you have good driving skills and know the map of Liberty City relatively well. By that, meaning you can speed, dodge traffic and still have little to no car damage at all. Reason is you can save time and easily get the “Car Damage XX% Requirement” (where XX is the percentage required for a mission to be considered ‘pass’, and anything over that would result in failure) at the same time. I personally prefer to brake at corners, take a turn and accelerate instead of drifting (or is it sliding?), knocking onto a car or a wall, reverse, and continue your journey. It’s going to waste precious time.
• NEVER EVER ride a taxi or cheat. Why? No matter how well you do in the end, your score won’t be counted at all. How cool is it to waste time?
• Accuracy-wise, I prefer any pistol, any of the assault rifles from the original Grand Theft Auto IV or the newly-added explosive shotgun. They don’t just help in accuracy but getting more headshots too! For the explosive shotgun reason, it is because it kills in one shot. So you don’t have to worry about misfires when you already hit your first shot.
• The requirements are cumulative. That means you can focus on one requirement at at time instead of getting all in one shot.
• For the “Player damage” requirement. If you aren’t an experienced player. It’s best to stay in cover and take your time to shoot down the targets.
• Time requirements are probably the most frustrating from my experience. For missions where you just have to shoot a couple of thugs/cops, Just use any of your assault rifles or SMGs, Lock-on, headshot and use your right stick to switch targets.

For the “100% Golf Accuracy” part, try aiming somewhere behind him or just below him. Hit the black bar every time and you should get this requirement.

“100% Headshots”… Best way to do this? Use your pistol. Your chances of getting a headshot are higher than using your P90 (Assault SMG). Oh and 100% headshots doesn’t mean one bullet per head. It basically means that every target have to die with a headshot. No matter how much you already damaged him.

Crowd Helped
Counter Finish
For “Crowd Helped”, just punch or kick your opponent close to the steel bars surrounding the arena and someone from the crowd will grab your opponent for you. For “Counter Finish”, just hope you can counter properly. Injured your opponent until he is low on health, let him take a shot at you and counter finish him. The hard part is Player Damage. I probably tried this mission tons of times before I finally got 10% or less. Trick here is to keep kicking your opponent. Don’t let him come close to you. Once you’ve done that, Santo will kill you after that for not taking a dive, Pull out your pistol and Shoot him.

For Accuracy, it is best to use the Explosive Shotgun. It Kills in One shot making the Percentage for Accuracy Higher.

One frustrating time requirement to meet. BUT! Do-able! Quick run through the rest. “Player Damage”, Don’t bother disturbing their meeting, just steal the buzzard. “Boats destroyed”, Remember to destroy the guard boat when you get the buzzard. It’s impossible to do this and meet the time in one shot. Here goes, for those buzzard whores on Free-mode, skip to the next mission you irritating bastards XD. For inexperienced players, just change the view to a first person view and use the minigun (or you can use both if you want) to takedown those boats. It’s going to be tough to judge how far away are you from the sea, so make use of your accelerometer on your radar (The horizontal line). Land on the Helipad as quickly as possible to save time. You don’t want to miss the time by 2 seconds; it will really piss you off.

Quickdraw the RPG
“Boat Damage”, After you throw your sticky bomb to the enemy’s boat, don’t detonate it straight away, steer clear and detonate. The Boat can take some damage from them but not too much. “Top Boat Speed”, Shouldn’t be hard. “Quickdraw the RPG” takes some patience and time. Basically, you have to kill the RPG man before he shoots a rocket. Throw a sticky bomb to somewhere in the middle of the enemies (The RPG man won’t come out till a couple of their guys are killed) ready your sniper and detonate the bomb. It won’t be easy for the first try so for your first attempt, locate and remember where the guy is. On your (Possibly) second attempt, do the same thing and you will get that requirement in no time.

Bang Bang
Time: 05:00
Player Damage: 50%
No Bombs Wasted
“No Bombs Wasted”, 3 for the crane, 1 for the Subway Cart and one for the plane. Time, here’s another killer. When you start, destroy the crane as quickly as possible. Just throw all 3 bombs at the same place. After that, take your shortest route to Yusuf’s buzzard at the helipad near the west river. Quickly fly (Fly low, you don’t need extra altitude) to the subway and “Nearly” touch the marker while still in your heli. Once the train comes, shoot your missiles at it. After that, fly to the airport and REMEMBER! To “Nearly” touch the marker again. Do the same thing and then, they’ll tell you to lose the cops. Just Fly North and the cop wanted level will drop to 2 stars.

Be careful here. Give the NOOSE team enough time and they can take you down quickly. Use your explosive shotgun to take down both the helicopters and the NOOSE. For “Free Fall Time”, don’t open your parachute immediately, I know you are excited for your (probably) first parachute grand opening. Wait until you reach a point where you feel it’s ready to open, then you pull open your chute.

Caught With Your Pants Down

Sharpshooter
For “Player Damage” I don’t see how can one get till below 50%, as long as you open your chute right and stay in the tank, nothing should go wrong. Cop cars shouldn’t be a problem. “Tank Damage”, DON’T run over a car on fire. The APC sure is durable but it’s NOT a Rhino. Too many close explosions with the APC will cause it to explode too. For “Sharpshooter” basically, R* wants you to snipe one shot per hook. It didn’t happen to me though. I missed one shot but I still got the requirement done. So, GOOD LUCK!

Perfect Landing
Always First
For “Perfect Landing”, Don’t worry, it took me many tries before I finally got it; with a trick. You have to land on a boat, but more specifically, R* wants you to land on the Smuggler (Google it if you are unsure of what it looks like). Here is the trick. Pull both LT and RT at the same time. Luis will land at a more perpendicular angle. It makes landing on the boat so much easier. “Always First” is easy. When you jump off the copter, let luis free fall until he is first. When you are about to hit the ground, pull your chute. Don’t pull too late or you will have to swim to the boat! The rest of the parts is nothing. Just use Nitro on straight roads.

Followed Close
“Top Speed” is easily obtainable at the long stretch along the river a few seconds after Mori calls the cops. “Car Damage” is easy. But how fast can you go with Car damage still below 20%? “Followed Close”, just stick at most a car length behind Brucie and you should get the requirement.

Frosting On The Cake

Time is going to be a big concern here so let’s get the easy part done first. I’m not quite sure about “Bomb Accuracy” because I got it every time I retry. “Player Damage”, throw ahead. Before the Limo reaches a certain part, you throw your sticky to the possible place the bikers will be and detonate it quickly. Just Practice. Takes about a second after you press the d-pad down for the bomb to detonate. For a time below 05:45, try your best not to give the limo a chance to stop. Let it move on non-stop. For the APC, about 3-4 stickies should do the trick and for the annihilator, just keep throwing bombs till one hits. Escaping the cops in less than 35 seconds sounds insane at first but its do-able. When the driver gets shot and luis takes its place, Keep driving straight till you’re out of the circle, then turn right to the nearest Pay N’ Spray.

For “Player Damage”, just take cover as much as you can. The dance part, best to dance perfectly. You can hone your skills in Maisonette 9 first.

If you can fly low without any Heli Damage, congrats. Otherwise, fly at a reasonable height to avoid buildings getting into your way. For the “Low Fly” requirement, it doesn’t have to be at about ground level, somewhere about 1 – 3 stories high should be alright. For “Close Pursuit”, easily, try your best not to lose sight of Packie.

Sticky Bomb Carnage
For the time concern, cut thru meadows park to save time. Destroying 5 vehicles should be a common thing for all you GTA players. For the “Bomb Hidden” requirement, detonating it too early before Bulgarin tells you to will not get you the requirement. I’m not sure what “Sticky Bomb Carnage” is. Player damage below 50%, stay in cover and chuck bombs. When all the NOOSE guys in the basement are dead, 2 more noose trucks will come in. My advice? Plant a bomb in the middle of the road and wait for their arrival, time it right and blow it up. When you are running out of the car park, another NOOSE truck will arrive. This time, blast them with your Explosive shotgun if you still have it. Otherwise spray them with your machine gun.

Landing Distance
Ashvilli Plummet
Truck Landing
“Landing Distance”, its hard to miss landing in the circle. “Ashvilli Plummet”, If you want to be safe, shoot everyone in that meeting room except Ashvilli. You kill him last at point blank. Landing on the truck should be the same as landing on the boat in “This ain’t Checkers”. Just that this time, the truck is moving.

In The Crosshairs

4 shots, 4 snipers
“4 shots, 4 snipers” is going to be hard for the first time. So it is best to locate them first. There is a part in the game where the targets will keep spawning until you move forward. Just a note. Best way to beat the time is to use your explosive shotgun and blast thru. A Helicopter will arrive. If you still have sticky bombs, a grenade launcher or an RPG, use them. Otherwise, shoot the driver. When you are nearing the fire escape, a few cars with arrive, take them out with your shotgun or bombs.

For The Man Who Has Everything

Duck Chopper
Helicopters Destroyed: 8
If you can find the fastest route to the highway, you are bound to beat time eventually. To get less than 50% damage, Shoot down every copter coming your way and take out/knock back any cops at the train stations. There will be a part in the game where the copter is directly in front of the train, that’s where you duck.

Ladies Half Price

When the cutscene showing the guy jumping onto your boat ends, just reverse and he will fall off in less than 7 seconds.

I can’t see how you can get over 90% damage if you take your time using cover. Anyway, lots of guys will start storming into the club after the cutscene so take out your explosive shotgun and blast some fools. Try your best to keep them from walking past the dance area. After the Russians finally stop coming in, CCTV shows few more in cars outside the club. Take the health pack in the management office if you need to. Take cover just beside the exit door and shoot the door open. Use your explosive shotgun and blast them all and their cars.

Departure Time

Reduce losing most of your health and increasing accuracy using, yes, my all time favourite, explosive shotgun. When you enter funland, throw a sticky to the van up ahead to destroy the heroin. Shoot the attackers and the yellow ducks too. (They contain heroin) After you shoot the last ducky, a cutscene should appear about Timur telling you Bulgarin is at the airport. Once the cutscene ends, quickly go after Timur and shoot him using anything you are currently holding. At least make him fall so you don’t have to chase him. Grab the bike and take your shortest route to the marker. Yusuf helps you blow Bulgarin’s men on your way there. When you reach the runway, you will see Bulgarin already about to take off. Chase him and get close to the marker to initiate a cutscene. After the scene you will be in cover on the plane. Quickly blind fire Bulgarin’s men to make them stumble, then kill them. Bulgarin appears holding a grenade. Kill him and watch another explosive cutscene. Parachute all the way to the monoglobe and you’re done!

As The Fusion Critic reports, FOX TV will air a Red Dead Redemption machinima special on May 15th, 2010. It will be directed by a top Hollywood director, John Hillcoat. This special TV premiere of a machinima makes it the longest running video game commercial yet, with a runtime of thirty minutes. Like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas: the Introduction, it is filmed using the game engine and assets.

Meanwhile, the network has booked “Red Dead Redemption,” a half-hour animated film, for Saturday, May 15 at midnight/11:00c.

John Hillcoat (“The Road”) helmed the special, which is based on the video game of the same name due to be released on May 18. Here’s how developer Rockstar Games describes the release: “America, early 1900’s. The era of the cowboy is coming to an end. When federal agents threaten his family, former outlaw John Marston is sent across the American frontier to help bring the rule of law. Experience intense gun battles, dramatic train robberies, bounty hunting and duels during a time of violent change. Red Dead Redemption is an epic battle for survival in a beautiful open world as John Marston struggles to bury his blood-stained past, one man at a time.”

It’s been reported that Keith Elam, better known by his stage name “Guru” of the Hip-Hop group Gang Starr, passed away at the age of 43 after a fight with cancer. Better known to video gamers and Grand Theft Auto fans as the voice of the Grand Theft Auto III character “8 Ball”, he was responsible in delivering one of the first and most recognised lines in the game-changing Grand Theft Auto III: “I know a place on the edge of the Red Light District where we can lay low. But my hands are all messed up, so you better drive, brother.”

As Rockstar Games notes, “All of us here at Rockstar were saddened to learn this morning of the news that Keith Elam, professionally known as Guru of Gang Starr, has succumbed to cancer after a long battle. Guru was truly a hip-hop legend, one of the genre’s greatest voices, and we are eternally grateful for his contributions to the Grand Theft Auto series as the character 8-Ball. Our condolences to the entire Elam family, to our good friend and his long-time Gang Starr collaborator DJ Premier, and to everyone else who had the pleasure of knowing or working with the man. Rest in peace.”

Rockstar Games has just released a brand new trailer for the PC and PS3 version of Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City. These versions of the retail game are due for release in a matter of hours in North America, and is coming on the 16th of April in Europe.

The song used is “(Are You Ready) Do the Bus Stop” by The Fatback Band, which can be heard on K109 The Studio in Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City (or on The Ballad of Gay Tony downloadable episodic content pack).

IGN has posted the first review of the PS3 version of Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City, which garnered an “Outstanding” rating of 9.2. Also, a trailer is coming Monday.

Rockstar Games has released two videos, produced using the video editor feature found in Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City for the PC. As with Grand Theft Auto IV, the video editor allows players to capture replays and then cut it together and set it to the game’s soundtrack.

Here’s a reminder: Rockstar Games will be holding a Social Club Multiplayer Event for Grand Theft Auto IV on the PC. Details quoted from the Rockstar Games News Wire are found below.

Kicking off the brand new calendar in the Social Club Multiplayer Events series is an afternoon of Grand Theft Auto IV on PC tomorrow via Games for Windows LIVE.  We’ll be racing and shooting through a variety of game modes from 4-7PM EST.  Let this be your chance to sharpen your Grand Theft Auto multiplayer skills as we near the April 13th North American release of Episodes from Liberty City for PC (and PlayStation 3).
Here’s all the details you need to know for the event.

We’ll start the afternoon with a game of Ranked Team Deathmatch.  You will be able to find members of the Rockstar team using the in-game cellphone and selecting Multiplayer > Ranked Match > Quick Match > Team Deathmatch.

SPECTATE AND CHAT
No worries if you’re unable to play.  Come follow all the action at the Social Club Multiplayer Events page with a live streaming broadcast of the entire event.  You can also chat with fans and with Rockstar in our chat box on the same page.

HOW TO FIND US
Grab a multiplayer friend and start up Ranked Team Deathmatch via Party Mode using the in-game cellphone.  We’re playing doubles again so make sure your team size is two.  By starting up Team Deathmatch from Party Mode, you will be automatically placed in special lobbies together with us and other event participants.  More info on using Party Mode is listed below.

ABOUT PARTY MODE
Grand Theft Auto IV’s in-game Party Mode is an easy way to get your group together and find matches.  Here are the three quick and easy steps to get you up and running:

Save your current game.  To get started, fire up the in-game mobile phone by pressing "Up" on the keyboard.  Select Multiplayer > Ranked Match > Quick Match > Party Mode > Yes.
From here, open up your phone again and select the Friends option to invite your friends (you need at least one friend to play with Rockstar).
Once your team is ready to roll, open up the in-game phone again and select Games > Team Deathmatch for the first few rounds.

We’ll be giving instructions and updates in the chat box on the modes we’ll be playing as the afternoon rolls on.  See you there…

Rockstar Games has released a schedule of multiplayer events, held over the period from April to June and spanning three platforms over three games.

Announcing the official new calendar of Rockstar Games Social Club Multiplayer Events that will take us through the spring and into the summer with reckless abandon – and lots of gunpowder.

We’ve got a full slate of official multiplayer sessions slated up with a well-balanced diet of Grand Theft Auto IV, Episodes from Liberty City in April, and starting in May, our newest multiplayer experience that we’re very excited to unleash, Red Dead Redemption – all across their respective online platform networks.

Each event listed below will come with all the trimmings:

• full-on multiple hour play sessions with your friends from Rockstar Games, the actual folks who work to bring you these games – no hired hands!

Rockstar Games today unveiled new box art for Red Dead Redemption, which has previously gone through two major box art changes. We believe this will be the final box art that will make it to the boxes in store.

Red Dead Redemption was previously delayed and is now scheduled for a May 18th, 2010 release in North America followed by a May 21st, 2010 release in Europe.

Rockstar Games announced earlier this week that the PC and PlayStation 3 versions of Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City’s release will be delayed to April – April 13th and April 16th in North America and Europe, respectively. This was due to last minute cuts that had to be made to the game at the behest of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. A full explanation on this matter, as given by Rockstar Games, follows.

Due to a last minute game submission request from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe to edit some of the in-game Liberty City radio station, television, and internet content – we are forced to delay the worldwide release of Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City for both PlayStation 3 and PC for an extra two weeks.

The new release date for Episodes from Liberty City – and the two downloadable episodes The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony – on those platforms is now April 13th in North America and April 16th in Europe. This new date will enable us to rectify these changes for Sony Europe, and still allow for a level playing field for all of the Grand Theft Auto fans that have been waiting patiently for this release. In the meantime, we’re moving full speed ahead towards the new game release date. On that note – please be aware that the Grand Theft Auto IV PlayStation 3 leaderboards at Rockstar Games Social Club will be down for maintenance for one week starting March 22nd as we work on their re-launch in support of Episodes from Liberty City.

Below are answers to some additional questions that we know some of you may have…

Those game changes sound pretty minor. Why does the game have to be delayed a whole two weeks?
Unfortunately, with each round of changes comes fully re-testing the game and a full re-submission to PlayStation. This is the nature of the game submission process. Believe us, if we could expedite the turnaround any sooner – we would. We are dying to get this game in the hands of fans who’ve waited for it for so long in the first place.

Why is content being edited just for the European release? This doesn’t seem fair.
There are different regional requirements for content – whether dictated by ratings boards like the ESRB and BBFC or by SCEE – this is pretty standard in the world of entertainment.

If this content is only being edited for the PlayStation 3 release, and only in Europe… why does everyone in North America etc have to wait? And why do PC players have to wait at all?
This was a tough decision but with a simultaneous release, everyone can experience multiplayer simultaneously, take part in online events together, be on level ground on leaderboards, etc.

What about those Episodes from Liberty City PSN and GFWL Social Club multiplayer events you announced for April 2nd and 3rd?
The first Episodes events for those systems will now be on April 16th and 17th. We will most likely replace the originally scheduled early April events with one for another game. Any requests?

Oh boy, this is indeed not good news. Rockstar Games have announced a new release date for their Spaghetti Western-themed open-world action title, Red Dead Redemption, putting its release in May, pushing it back a couple of weeks. The new release date for North America is now May 18th, 2010, with Europe trailing behind on May 21st, 2010.

Rockstar Games promises the game’s release date is “final”, stating the following:

“We at Rockstar have always prided ourselves on the uncompromising quality of our games – and will always opt to take a bit longer to polish and fine-tune a game to be as perfect as possible when we think it necessary. With Red Dead Redemption, we felt that these extra few weeks will make a big difference in helping us deliver you an experience beyond your expectations.

Thanks for your patience. We believe it will be worth the wait.”

Given the long hours the Red Dead Redemption development team had to put in, in wake of the Rockstar Spouse “scandal”, it is indeed good to hear that the team now has more time to lay down the finishing touches.

Meanwhile, PS3 gamers waiting for this title can occupy themselves with Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City, which is due for release later this month on March 30th, 2010.

Having read this via Rockstar Games News Wire, I thought I might post this for those who are unsure about the origins of the internet phenomena, dubbed “Rickrolling”.

Fox News writes:

“In keeping with silly Internet humor, the director of the image-sharing Web site 4chan, who goes by the handle “moot,” decided he’d play a joke and change the word “egg” to “duck” every time a user posted a message.

In time the phenomenon spread, and the word “eggroll” was replaced by “duckroll.” When someone came up with the idea to redirect Internet links to an image of a duck on wheels, RickRolling’s forebear, “duckrolling,” was born.

Then in March 2007 came the release of the eagerly awaited first trailer for the still-upcoming video game “Grand Theft Auto IV.”

So popular was the response that it immediately crashed game publisher Rockstar Games’ Web site.

In what was to become a pivotal moment in Internet hoax history, someone at 4chan took the now-useless Web link for the “Grand Theft Auto IV” trailer and duckrolled it.

But instead of linking to the image of a duck on wheels, he or she linked to the Rick Astley video on YouTube. RickRolling was born.”

With the iPhone version of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars already out for almost two months, Rockstar Games have kindly provided struggling fans with a walkthough of an overtly-simple-yet-frustrating-on-the-iPhone mission, “Pimp His Ride”.

(Huang en route to do a little finger banging in the street racing champ’s prized race car.)

The widely-acclaimed Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars has now swerved its way onto a triad of mobile platforms, each time bringing with it unique interactive control schemes that cater the gameplay towards the use of a stylus, an analog stick, or a touch-screen.  Fooling around with the screen in the latest iPhone and iPod touch version of the game is pretty damn fun if we do say so ourselves – literally having the action of Grand Theft Auto right at your fingertips for the first time.  One example of this involves a mission given to Huang Lee, the main character, by Chan Jaoming - the subject of today’s tips-laded mission walkthrough.

The mission "Pimp His Ride" incorporates a range of different gameplay sequences.  In the mission, Chan tells Huang that he wishes to become the next Triad boss, but that he won’t accomplish the goal without the support of the powerful Tongs.  Chan tasks Huang to sabotage the vehicle of a local street racing champ, believing that he can gain an advantage and impress the Tongs by winning a big upcoming race.

After starting the mission, follow the car (the blue blip on your radar), making sure to not get too close.  Once you arrive at the auto shop, get out of your car and hop in the street racing champ’s racing vehicle.  Use the touch-screen to drag the wire into the slot on the right to connect your PDA to the car alarm – this will allow you to start the car without sounding the alarm.  Once you see the four yellow numbers of alarm code appear on your PDA, work from left to right to match each digit up to the scrolling red and white numbers on the alarm.  When the correct matching number comes up, tap the red and white area where the number is displayed with your finger to lock it in.

(Watch the vertical green indicator to see how much time you have left before the alarm sounds.)

With the alarm disabled, you can then drive the car back to Chan’s garage.  Once you’re there, a collection of tools will be presented on screen so you can get to "work" on the vehicle a bit – wire cutters, a screwdriver and a hammer.  Using the wire cutters, cut the wires in the upper right portion of the screen by snipping with your fingers.  Next, grab the screwdriver and puncture the coolant tank with a swift poke.  Third, pick up the hammer and beat the hell out of the engine by using your fingertips to do some smashing.

(This part of the mission lets you use your fingers to destroy a car using an array of tools.)

Before you close the hood and drive the car back to the auto shop, there’s one last thing that you need to do in order to completely sabotage the street racing champ’s racing vehicle and add insult to injury, and a pungent aroma to his air conditioning.  Throw the stinky fish on the radiator and watch it grill.

(Nothing like the smell of old fish in the car as you’re driving along on a sunny afternoon…)

Drive the car back to the auto shop before your time runs out, but be careful about going too fast as the modifications you made under the hood will cause the vehicle’s steering to be a handful.  Once you return the car, a tow truck will arrive to take it to the race where an unsuspecting street racing champ will be awaiting his baby.

This is just one of many examples of how ‘hands-on’ the experience of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is on the iPhone and iPod touch.  If you have other favorite touch-screen moments from playing the game or need a helpful tip getting through a specific part – just give us a shout and let us know…

IGN has published an article today, gearing up for Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City’s release on the PS3 (and PC) in March 30, furnishing us with a neat gameplay video. Since the Xbox 360 and PS3 are almost on par with each other in graphical quality, it’s not hard to tell why there aren’t any PS3-specific screenshots or videos.

We should be expecting screenshots of the PC version pretty soon, though, so be stay tuned!

As the title says, Grand Theft Auto IV is now available on Microsoft’s Games for Windows – LIVE service, through the new Games on Demand section in the online marketplace, mirroring that of the Xbox LIVE Marketplace, which had been retailing Grand Theft Auto IV for quite some time now.

This is good news for those who need a little acclimatisation before Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City comes out March 30 for the PC. However, costing US$29.99, the price might be a little steep as compared to standard retail pricing or bargain prices sometimes found on Valve’s Steam service.

Rockstar Games has announced the winner for the Rockstar Games Social Club TV Horror Contest. The contest was held in Halloween of 2009 for the Windows version of Grand Theft Auto IV. The winning entry was announced to be “The Devil in Her” by Tr.Donk.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) and GAME, a United Kingdom-based video games retailer, have collaborated to organise the BAFTA Game of the Year 2009 awards. An update was recently released over Xbox LIVE for both GTA IV and Episodes from Liberty City, which fixes the following issues:

• The upwards velocity of parachutes is now capped
• Bowling alley ‘invisible pins’ are now fixed
• Updates have been made to prevent players modifying stats for online games
• Infinite Nitro is now fixed

In this news post, I shall provide you with the progress of the ongoing maintainance work.

In the move, we have lost several images, while the news posts had largely remained intact. These images will be updated in time to come, and as we are preparing for The 7th Zone’s official website launch, we have edited the titles and layout of our 300-odd posts to give you an easier reading experience! The posts will also be neatly organised into categories and tags.

Previously, tags were used to categorise each news post into their specific game title they were about. However, in the move, we have decided to switch to the use of categories. Tags will now be used for more in-depth categorisation.

All the archived news posts have now been neatly categorised, and we will make full use of tags for an easier browsing experience after launch. For older Grand Theft Auto games, extensive write-ups are also in “Work-in-Progress” status.

Rockstar Games has silently updated the iPhone/iPod touch version of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars over the App Store, bumping it up to version 1.0.1. In addition to the bug fixes, they have also released the game in many more regions.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is now available in the following App Store regions:

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, United Kingdom, United States.

The recent update now fixes the issue with Independence FM. The “GTA” Custom iTunes Playlist now plays selections from your playlist randomly (shuffle mode).

In a not-so-shocking revelation, Rockstar Games announced today that Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City will be making its way to Windows PCs and the PlayStation 3 as well. It was previously an “Xbox 360 exclusive”. The announcement added a whole new dimension to the phrase “Opens March Everywhere”, which first appeared in a poster that can be seen in the Xbox 360 version of The Ballad of Gay Tony, as well as on the last page of the Episodes from Liberty City manual (as mentioned in this news post).

We are happy to announce the much anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Games for Windows® – LIVE on March 30, 2010. For the first time, PlayStation 3 and Games for Windows – LIVE players will have the opportunity to experience the last two thrilling chapters of the Grand Theft Auto IV saga.

The two action packed episodes will also be available for download on the PlayStation Network and Games for Windows® LIVE on March 30, 2010. Each episode boasts the same detailed and immersive Liberty City we all know and love. Games for Windows – LIVE players can enjoy 32-player multiplayer matches and an advanced video editor, and all fans will have the chance to once again listen to the dulcet tones of Liberty City Radio.

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City will be released March 30, 2010 on the PlayStation 3, as well as Windows PCs.

Rockstar Games has revealed today the first set of cheat codes for the iPhone version of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. The first set of cheats revealed are all weapon cheats, but a user “ozzytheking” on the Touch Arcade Forums has discovered several other cheats that can modify player statistics (such as health, armour and wanted level).

Update (Sunday, January 24, 2010): More cheats have been discovered – the code for explosive pistol rounds (BOOMCAN), along with codes to skip in-game time by either one or six hours, as well as by one day.

Cheats are entered on your Mission Replay Board which can be accessed by visiting any Safe House (you can find the Board on the far right side of the Safe House). The Mission Replay Board has a jumbled set of magnetized letters that can be used to arrange all kinds of words – spell out the letters below to input the following cheats:

Weapons:
Weapon cheat 1 – LOADOA
Grants: grenade, nightstick, pistol, minigun, assault, micro smg, stubby shotgun

Weapon cheat 2 – LOADOB
Grants: molotov, teaser, dual pistols, flamethrower, carbine, smg, dual-barrel

After having a go at it, I am here to give some of my first impressions on the game. Please note that I have played both the DS and PSP versions of the game, as well as other Grand Theft Auto-esque titles currently available on the App Store, which allows me to formulate my opinion of the game (disregarding the fact that I am indeed a fanboy, as I try to present a more balanced critique of the game as I go along).

When you first start Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, you will recognise the familiar Rockstar Games legal screen seen on almost every Rockstar Games-published title to date. What you will not see, however, is a splash screen with Rockstar Games, Rockstar North and Rockstar Leeds on them, quite surprisingly.

As soon as it starts out, the game will prompt the player (you) to auto-save, and it immediately plays the first cutscene afterwards. Following that is a touch-screen mini-game, which plays just like on the DS. As Huang swims to shore, you will realise three things: the HUD, which is unbelievably clean and nicely-styled as in the PSP version; the controls, which are spaced out well enough; the graphics, which look great for an iPhone game.

However, there are some downsides which become apparent if you have played the PSP verison before or have seen it in action. There aren’t bloom or stunning lighting effects, and the radio stations are limited to the original few that appeared on the DS verison. Also, the controls are not as effective during action-based sequences which may leave you wanting more (this is, however, the inherent weakness of the iPhone which suffers from touch-only input).

These drawbacks place it between the DS and the PSP version, where it retains the PSP version’s higher-resolution textures (but without certain post-processing effects as it seems) and cleaner art style, but also keeps the touch-screen mini-games, as well as the original set of missions and selection of radio stations of the DS version.

However, there are other features that are also ostensibly left out, which includes Mutiplayer and Rockstar Games Social Club support, both of which are present in the DS and PSP versions. A minor trade-off feature, however, has been included with the addition of the Independence FM feature first seen in GTA IV PC which allows players to play their own music.

The rest of the game, aside from the aforementioned differences, plays similarly to the DS and the PSP version, with the same story campaign and side-missions as the original DS title.

On the whole, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is an enticing and well-rounded package that proves to be a strong contender against other top-grossing App Store games, as well as a strong rival to the original DS version and the PSP port in its feature-set and relative pricing.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is out now for the iPhone/iPod touch, just released today in Europe with other regions to follow soon. Click here to buy it from the iTunes App Store (UK). For the price of £6, the app currently supports iPhone OS 3.1.2 and above, and looks to be quite stellar from screenshots, placing it between the PSP and DS versions.

Psy from iGrandTheftAuto has posted his first impressions:

“Control scheme takes quite a bit of getting used to. There’s an on-screen analog stick that you’ve got to move in whatever direction you wish to travel on foot. That’s kind of complicated and your thumb takes up like quarter of the screen but after awhile I’d kind of got used to it. When driving there’s different buttons that appear and the steering is pretty hard. There are two different buttons, one for left and one for right and it’s just awkward trying to keep your fingers out of the way while you’re driving at speed.

Definitely takes a bit of getting used to. Personally I think using the accelerometer would have been a better way of moving, but I guess eventually I’ll get the hang of it. Not good for your screen though, smearing fingerprints all over it while running around.

Graphics are awesome, looks just like the DS version and loading times are pretty short indeed.

Can’t complain for £6 though (presumably that’s $10). Just the controls is the main issue but there’s not really many other things they could have done I suppose.”

Update: I have played the game at it seems the screenshots found on iTunes are that of a beta build of the game (which resembles the DS version). The final release build, which is the current version, resembles the PSP version more in style, yet with content and interface that is more in-line with the DS version.

Patch 5 for Grand Theft Auto IV on the PC makes the following changes to the game:

• Convert all region SKU’s into the same SKU.
• Include support for all languages within single exe.
• Allow controls to be double mapped on keyboard.
• Added option in controls menu to disable mouse controls in helicopters.
• Adjust keyboard control sensitivity in hood cam view in vehicles.
• Security Updates to deter cheating in multiplayer.
• Hosts can now immediately Kick users from their games in Lobby and in game via Cell phone without having to rely on peer voting.
• Fixed a bug in Cops ‘n Crooks mode where Host would drop out and prevent remaining players from leaving game.

Rockstar Games has released the final video for The Ballad of Gay Tony, showing our main man Luis Fernando Lopez! He is voiced by none other than the amazing Mario D’Leon!

“Things weren’t always so good for Luis Lopez. Growing up with a strict single mother in the tough neighborhood of Northwood Heights, he managed to get himself into a lot of trouble at an early age. It wasn’t until he was 25, after serving some time and taking part in a criminal outreach program, that he met Tony Prince, the man who changed everything. Having worked his way up from doorman, the Dominican playboy now acts as personal bodyguard, confidant and friend to Tony, Liberty City’s most successful – and delusional, neurotic and drink and drug addled – nightlife impresario. Although Tony is a Liberty City legend, he is also over his head in debt to gangsters and back on a path to self-destruction, Luis now has a fulltime job just trying to keep his boss, and the clubs he owns afloat.”

“Rockstar has a great history of providing colorful characters in the Grand Theft Auto series and The Ballad of Gay Tony is no exception. While you might expect the title character to be the most flamboyant of the bunch, there’s one man who stands above the rest. Yusuf Amir isn’t just the funniest and most enjoyable character in any part of the GTA IV saga (sorry, Roman!), he ranks among the best in any GTA game.

What makes Yusuf so special? He’s an enthusiastic, well-meaning, ridiculous rich kid desperate to please his father. Unlike most Rockstar characters, Yusuf isn’t self-destructing, in over his head, or on the way down. He’s rich and his goal is to find a way to please his father. That might mean stealing him a rare helicopter, building the tallest skyscraper in Liberty City, or stealing a tank.

In the mission “Caught with Your Pants Down,” Luis Lopez arrives at Yusuf’s penthouse to find him in his tightie whities, talking to a disinterested hooker. Yusuf’s latest scheme is to steal a NOOSE APC tank and he’s willing to pay big to get it. As Luis snags the cash, Yusuf’s father barges in. Caught off guard (with his pants down, no less), Yusuf mumbles some incoherent excuse and pushes Luis and the call girl out the door.

The mission itself offers a glimpse of the over-the-top nature of The Ballad of Gay Tony. You drive Yusuf’s gold-plated car to Star Junction, where a helicopter lands during rush hour to pick you up. After flying across the city, you come to a transport helicopter carrying an APC tank. You free the tank by shooting the cables, leap out of the chopper and parachute down to where the tank lands. Then things get crazy.

The APC Tank is such a badass that you can use it to force your wanted level down. Roam the streets of the city and blow the hell out of every cop car and NOOSE van that comes by. Eventually the cops get so beaten down, they just stop showing up. Sooner or later, someone has to make the call that letting the guy with the tank ride off into the sunset is the right call.

The tank isn’t the M1 Abrams variety with a giant turret that you might hope. This is a compact, highly durable tank designed for patrolling a metropolitan area. It doesn’t pack a giant bang, but you can destroy other vehicles with its gun, or just run right through them.”

Rockstar Gams has released new details on the upgraded Race and GTA Race modes in The Ballad of Gay Tony, including vehicles available to race from each vehicle class, as well as three new screenshots.

“The fan-favorite Race and GTA Race checkpoint racing multiplayer modes return in The Ballad of Gay Tony – now upgraded with the intensity of nitrous available in every vehicle. Nitrous boosts of course can provide that much needed surge in the thick of a heat but always use them wisely – an ill-timed blast may send you headfirst into a crash. GTA Race mode of course adds the element of combat, with spawned weapon pick-ups you can scoop up and use at will – but also now provides APC tanks to unleash heavy artillery on your opponents.”

Rockstar Games has revealed part of the radio station roster in Grand Theft Auto IV that will receive updates. They have confirmed several songs, as well as four DJs. The Ballad of Gay Tony will receive updates to ElectroChoc, K109 The Studio, as well as Vladivostok FM, with more to be revealed. “Vice City FM”, a new radio station, will also be featured exclusively on the Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City disc which includes The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony, proving to be quite an incentive for fans contemplating between getting the Episodes from Liberty City disc, and The Ballad of Gay Tony download from Xbox LIVE Marketplace. Vice City FM will feature Fernando Martinez and will play 1980s hits.

Well, the release date has arrived. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for the PSP has hit shelves all over the world (except Europe, in which it arrives on October 23), so grab your copy as soon as possible!

Rockstar Games Social Club updates:

With the release of GTA: Chinatown Wars for the PSP, comes a whole new plethora of updates for the Rockstar Games Social Club.

First of all, all of the existing features on Social Club for the DS version of the game have been updated to be fully compatible with the PSP version of the game.

A new mini game has been released by Rockstar Games onto the Social Club website. It’s called Sum Yung Gai’s Peking Duck Hunt, and this is another way you can earn cash and other rewards to your Chinatown Wars game, similar to the original game released with the DS version of the game, Mr. Wong’s Laundry. In this game, you play as an assistant chef in the Sum Yung Gai restaurant in Liberty City. The aim of is game is to chop up the inredients to fill then roll as many moo shu pancakes as possible before the time runs out. The mini game also has leaderboards for friends and the Top 50 in the world.

Another new addition to the Social Club is the Chinatown Wars Guide Map. A map that shows you every stunt jump, Rampage, security camera and drug deals there are in Liberty City. A special reward that makes your time in Liberty City more profitable will be handed out by Rockstar if you destroy every security camera in Liberty City with the help of the Guide Map. There will be friend comparison tool to add an extra edge of competition as to where you stand in finding all the secrets in Liberty City.

And last but not least, the Rockstar Games Social Club’s download section has been updated with all new papercraft models, including busts of Ling and Kenny, cartoon-sized and styled reproductions of the in-game weapons, and various vehicles like the Stallion, Infernus, and the Sum Yung Gai Noodle Van.

A new gameplay video has been released for the PSP version of GTA: Chinatown Wars, showing gameplay and finishes with an explosive confrontation between Huang Lee and Zhou Ming.

New radio station preview:

Rockstar News Wire has released a new radio station preview that is featured in GTA: Chinatown Wars, which is a radio station mix by popular hip-hop producer DJ Khalil, who has worked with many famous artists in hip-hop today, such as Drake and Fabolous.

Before you say no, Rockstar Games would us like to think otherwise, to get us acclimatised with the over-the-top world of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, where nothing is impossible to imagine. They have released the character profile and artwork for the new character Melanie Mallard.

“Looking to make her big break in journalism, documentary filmmaker Melanie Mallard has made a deal with Chan Jaoming that she believes will help her finally make a name for herself as she captures the Triads’ rule of the City’s drug trade on camera. It will be up to Huang to escort her around as she films the action, but whether or not she can be trusted not to go public with too much information remains to be seen.”

GameTrailers has just released online the episode of GameTrailers TV (starring Geoff Keighley), Episode 225, which includes exclusive footage of the unreleased downloadable episodic content pack, The Ballad of Gay Tony, from Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City which will be released on October 29th, 2009. The episode, which aired on Spike TV earlier today, is rather lengthy. Nevertheless, it will include lots of new details, so you might want to watch it, either through the embedded player below, or, if you wish, via GameTrailers’ site in full high definition, here.

Rockstar Games has released the first multiplayer details for Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony. Apparently, it will not only be much more fun to kill each other and mess around in free mode, it will also be less of a pain to get the “Wanted” achievement.

Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch:

In Deathmatch, with up to 16 players online, your objective is to have the most kills within the set time. Players are awarded contract money for each kill, and can also loot casualties for their dropped cash. The player with the most cash when the game ends wins. In Team Deathmatch, players work as a team to rub out other teams for money – and the crew with the most cash at the end of the round wins.

The Ballad of Gay Tony takes these classic multiplayer modes and gives them a high-powered bump with the addition of new weapons like the Assault SMG, the Explosive Shotgun, the Advanced Sniper Rifle, Sticky Bombs and more. See below for the full list and other specifications.

New Weapons: Pistol .44, Explosive Shotgun, Assault SMG, Gold SMG, Advanced MG, Advanced Sniper, Sticky Bombs and Parachute

Cash for Kills: Make $25 for every assisted kill.

Kill Streaks: Kill streaks of 3, 5 or 10 gives the player health and armor bonuses. Ending other players’ kill streaks you earn $125.

Deathmatch Locations: Deathmatch locations are contained areas, making for an even more intense experience. New locations include: CC Plaza, Meadow Hills, Firefly Island, Alderney Building Site, Varsity Heights, Factory, Construction, Acter Power Station, Pier 45, Castle Gardens Park, Boat House, Easton Subway, Warehouse, Hospital, Waste, Trespass, Museum and more.

Weapon Classes: Episodic, Automatic, Sniper Rifles, Explosives, Sticky Bombs.

Free Mode:

Free Mode is a long-running fan favorite mode that is truly the sandbox equivalent of Multiplayer. No rules, no guidelines, just all out mayhem and anarchy. Rockstar Games has added to their site a new audio preview of the updated radio roster in the PSP version of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. Following ANVIL and DFA Records, Tortoise, an “instrumental rock” band is now confirmed to also have their own radio station in Chinatown Wars.

“Often referred to as ‘post-rock’, this Chicago-based outfit was one of the very first bands to fearlessly incorporate hip-hop, techno, dub and drum’n'bass into modern guitar-based rock’n'roll in the late 1980’s, earning them worldwide acclaim. Influential to this day, Tortoise’s most recent album is the critically acclaimed Beacons of Ancestorship. Since the PSP version of Chinatown Wars will have 11 Radio Stations in total, it would mean that there are still three new stations yet to be revealed before release. So be stay tuned for more updates! Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars hits the PSP on October 20th, 2009.

Official Trailer (PSP version):

As announced yesterday, Rockstar Games has released the official trailer for the PSP version of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. It does show some gameplay clips and the tweaked game engine in action, although most scenes aren’t foreign to most of us who have at least tried out the original version on the Nintendo DS when it was released about 6 months ago. If you are basing your purchase on gameplay, then the trailer would be of great help.

Also, along with the trailer, IGN has released an article detailing their Question and Answer session which they had with Rockstar Games regarding the PSP version of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. It has done a great job in clarifying certain doubts. You can read the full article here, but below is a concise summary of interesting points that have been made in the article (courtesy of Zeeshan Nasir from parent site Multiplayer Network (edited)).

• Much more detailed: You actually see the City in 1:1 ratio, better water physics, weather enhancement, real-time bloom lighting effects and shadow effects and more lively explosions.
• Cars will react accordingly to both dry and wet conditions.
• Muzzles flash on weapons; vehicle damage is detailed.
• There will be 6 new missions related to a new character Melanie Mallard. These new missions will give player behind the scenes look at trafficking in Liberty City.
• Added more non-story missions – More PCJ playgrounds, and more turret rampages.
• Illustrations are now presented in high resolution throughout cut-scenes.
• Radio Stations are still instrumental, but “nearly two hours of new tracks that span six new stations from artists like legendary rock group Anvil, dance-punk label DFA Records, and more.” No more MIDI, at least.

In case you’ve missed it, these are the audio clips Rockstar Games have posted online a while back for Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. As announced, Rockstar Games has released the second official trailer for Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City, prominently featuring the high-octane episode, The Ballad of Gay Tony. The song that plays in the background of the video is “The Look” by Roxette.

It’s October. And that means the hype machine starts rolling full steam for most media products out there. Do we expect Grand Theft Auto, the series of massive international best-selling and critically acclaimed hits, to be of any exception?

In four hours time, Rockstar Games will release the second official trailer for Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City, which will of course prominently feature The Ballad of Gay Tony. The trailer will be called “There’s Always a Girl”.

Of course, one can already guess the genre of music that will be used in the trailer. What about the soundtrack of the game itself? Rockstar Games has dropped us a hint.

“Throughout the years, the iconic layout and fonts of Grand Theft Auto cover art has been referenced, parodied and paid homage to in variety show skits, club flyers and of course heavily in the mixtape scene.

This one randomly found online from New York’s DJ Rei Double R is quite timely though – with a Dominican bachata driven tracklist that sounds like something Luis Lopez and his uptown pana’s Armando & Henrique (as seen in last week’s Episodes from Liberty City clip) might be blasting in their car.

Might a couple of these artists appear on The Ballad of Gay Tony’s soundtrack? Hmmm…”

While it is more than obvious that it will feature music from genres like Dance, Club, Techno, Dancehall, Electro, Electronica, Dancehall, and Reggaeton, did we not also expect Bachata? Probably, or not. IGN has just posted a brand new trailer for Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City, featuring the characters Armando Torres and Henrique Bardas (we don’t know how they’re related to Elizabeta Torres and Mallorie Bardas from the original Grand Theft Auto IV) from The Ballad of Gay Tony, and Brian Jeremy from The Lost and Damned.

The songs used are (in order of the segments they are heard in): “Jump Up” by Major Lazer Feat. Leftside & Supahype, as well as “Get Ready To Die” by Magic Dirt (featured on Radio Broker).

“Armando and Henrique are two of Luis Lopez’s oldest friends. They grew up together, went to school together, and got in a lot of trouble together. Henrique isn’t too bright, but he’s big, tough, dependable and knows how to use a gun. Armando’s a little guy who talks a big game, and considers himself the brains of the operation – not difficult given his partner in crime. Armando, in particular, resents Luis for getting out of the neighborhood and above his station, but Henrique and Armando remain fiercely loyal to Luis and always have his back.

Luis can call on his friends whenever he needs weapons and vehicles, or back-up on certain missions. Armando and Henrique are always around to engage in other activities, whether it’s visiting the clubs, hitting some bars or heading to the driving range for some golf.”

Rockstar Games have released a new video for Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony, titled “Meet Yusuf Amir”. Rockstar Games has published a great deal of goodies over at their News Wire recently. They’ve explained some of the questions fans had about the Grand Theft Auto series, as quoted from their website below. Also, Lazlow is announced to be appearing in Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony, with a new talk show programme on Integrity 2.0.

Yup… that’s Vic. After having been dragged back into the Vice City criminal underworld by his brother Lance following the events of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, Vic Vance dies in the ambush that occurs in the opening scene of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

The song featured in the trailer for Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is aptly named “Chinatown Wars” by Ghostface Killah and Doom. It was produced exclusively for the game by Oh No (of Stones Throw fame, from the west coast), and is currently available on iTunes.

“In GTAIV, there’s a wall that contains the names of previous protagonists in the Grand Theft Auto series, and after some of those names, there are the words ‘R.I.P.’ or something similar. Is this a way of confirming that the GTA3 timeline is over, or will you bring it back someday?” - Rodrigo6411

This was a little joke for fans of the series. The Grand Theft Auto III timeline is not necessarily over – but it is a different world to Grand Theft Auto IV – only the branding and certain radio personalities exist across both worlds. The reason for this was that we felt Grand Theft Auto IV was a high-definition experience and required different kinds of characters. That – and the fact that most people from the previous world are dead.

Certainly gun shots were fired, but nobody is sure as to exactly what happened.

They have also published a blog post explaining the what goes on behind the selection of the songs used in the recent Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony videos (Eric Prydz – “Pjanoo” in the Debut trailer, as well as Patrick Cowley – “Menergy” in the Meet: Tony Prince video). These songs will be in the soundtrack, which will of course feature a selection of new songs that adhere to the overall ostentatious and extravagant theme of The Ballad of Gay Tony.

As announced yesterday via the Rockstar Games News Wire, a new video of Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony has been released, similar to the one released earlier this year for The Lost and Damned, which was a faux satirical news report parody not unlike that of The Onion’s.

The new video features footage of new weapons (sticky bombs/satchel charges and the new AA-12 shotgun), as well as the new “Buzzard” attack helicopter mentioned earlier in previews. Above all, this video presents a very cohesive and compact satirical representation of current world affairs, which makes it a must-watch!

In addition, Rockstar Games has released the “Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City Horizon Wallpapers”, which you can download from their website, here. We do expect more news to trickle down the wire (pun intended), so be stay tuned!

More details of Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony have been put on, via an eight-page preview in the latest issue of the Xbox World 360 Magazine. GTANet has posted quite a summary of the new details that have been revealed in the issue, as seen below.

• The HUD (Heads-Up-Display) is a “Parma Violet-style pink/purple”.
• The Ballad of Gay Tony should feature around 20 missions (roughly the same as The Lost and Damned).
• Missions get scored out of 100% depending on your style and efficiency. You can re-play missions at any time in order to improve your scores.
• Three nightclubs are accessible – Bahama Mamas, Hercules and Maisonette 9. Luis is tasked with managing Hercules and Maisonette 9 – the two clubs which belong to Gay Tony. Hercules was off-limits during this preview.
• The golf course in Algonquin behind Memory Lanes is open for business! A golfing minigame is available.
• New websites have been added to the in-game internet.
• A new car based on a Bentley continental Convertible is called the Super Drop Diamond.
• One of the new random character missions involves “a mental ex-girlfriend of Luis’ who places a bomb in his car, leading to a race to disarm it.”
• Four missions were previewed during the demo, two of which we heard about in previous previews:
  • “Dropping In…” – Tony orders Luis to team up with Bulgarin’s henchman, Timur. Bulgarin wishes to acquire The Rampage, Liberty City’s ice hockey team, and Luis must storm the penthouse office and get the owner to sign his business over to Bulgarin. Luis parachutes onto the roof and heads down a maintenance stairwell before being confronted by security. At this point, alarms are blaring and the sprinkler systems go off. Luis eliminates his target by shooting him through a window, and then escapes through the window with the parachute still on his back. He lands on a moving truck, which conveniently has a mattress on its trailer. If Luis had missed the truck, he would have had to face another army of security men.
  • “For the Man Who Has Everything” – This mission is done for Yusuf Amir, a billionaire property developer. Yusuf is played by Omid Djalili, as many people speculated after hearing his voice during the trailer. Yusuf wants to ship a railway carriage back to the Middle East as a gift. The first objective is to jump onto a train from the nearest overpass, which is done by tapping X at the right moment (the jump itself is automated). Luis must make his way to the front of the train, as cops shoot down at him from helicopters. Once Luis has disconnected the front carriage, Yusuf lifts the carriage from the tracks using a Skyhook chopper.
  • “Going Deep” – This mission involves silencing detectives who have evidence on Bulgarin and Timur which could see them go to jail. The plan is to rig their vehicle with a satchel bomb in an underground car park, but the cops are already onto them. Once the attackers are dead, the detectives chase Luis and Timur.
  • “Sexy Time” – Yusuf wants to acquire an attack chopper called the Buzzard. It belongs to a group of arms dealers, and is situated on a yacht. Luis has to sneak on board without security seeing him and then steal the chopper. As Luis makes his way back to Yusuf’s pad, Yusuf calls and orders him to go back and destroy the yacht. Some of the gangsters escape on speedboats, so the final task is to eliminate them.

With Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony, we’ve got loads of questions. And there are loads of answers. Rockstar Games has posted an article with the answers to many of the questions the online community had asked. Also, USA Today published an article about their question and answer session with Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar Games. To top it off, the Australian Xbox 360 Magazine have gave us answers to some of our questions from watching the recently released trailer for Episodes from Liberty City.

A new screenshot has been released which features the mission where Luis has to destroy a yacht with the new attack Helicopter. The Australian Xbox 360 magazine has confirmed that the new helicopter is called the “Buzzard”. Also, the FN P-90, Atchisson Assault Shotgun, and M249 light machine gun are three new weapons confirmed for the episode. Luis is also said to be wealthy, unlike Niko or Johnny.

Also, in related news, a new patch has been released for the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV, which will automatically download via Xbox LIVE. It addresses issues such as the invisible player issue, as well as prevents use of cheat code exploits in multiplayer. Be stay tuned for more news to come!

Some new details confirmed include a new full-fleged soundtrack with “seven new radio stations”. The Spanish version of the Official Xbox Magazine (OXM) have published a hands-on article of the upcoming Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony. There isn’t much new information, other than the fact that there will be two new vehicles. Most of the features reported were already confirmed earlier.

• 2 new vehicles: a SWAT Tank and a car similar to the Rolls Royce Phantom (probably a ‘Washington’)
• New weapons: AA-12 shotgun, satchel charges
• Minigames/Features: Basejumping/skydiving, club dancing, and club bodyguard
• Like The Lost Motorcycle Club’s clubhouse in The Lost and Damned, the exterior of Bahama Mamas club has been modified from the stock Grand Theft Auto IV model.

USA Today, which was known for publishing the first known article on Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damnaed, is now back with their first hands-on experience with Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony. While details have been rather sketchy, USA Today confirms much about the new expansion that’s coming this fall on October 29th, 2009.

Rockstar Games’ grand epic Grand Theft Auto IV writes its final chapter Oct. 29. And the action is as over-the-top as the title: The Ballad of Gay Tony.

Available via download exclusively for owners of the Xbox 360 version of the game ($20, and like all GTA titles, for mature audiences), this second and last add-on episode focuses on Luis Lopez, Dominican-born second-in-command to nightclub magnate Gay Tony. The drug-addled Tony, losing a grip on his empire, puts Luis in dangerous circumstances in an attempt to retain his power.

“Luis has to do some of these favors and see if he can get them out of debt,” says Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar Games and lead writer of the episode. “The situation with Tony’s drug problems gets worse and worse, and Tony gets more and more out of control.”

The events happen at the same time as those in GTAIV, which has sold more than 14 million copies worldwide since its release in April 2008 (for Xbox and PS3). It focused on the “coming to America-type story” of former Eastern European soldier Niko Bellic in Liberty City.

The first downloadable episode, The Lost and the Damned, released in February, focused on Johnny Klebitz, a member of biker gang The Lost. It and Gay Tony remain Xbox 360 exclusives. Both also will be out Oct. 29 on a $40 GTA: Episodes From Liberty City disc that can be played without the original game.

“I know, as a consumer, I’m more comfortable buying songs, which are almost like playing a jukebox, than I am buying movies as purely digital items,” Houser says. “We all feel that way, so we can surely get more people to experience it if we put it on a disc.”

Packed with action set pieces à la films such as Mission: Impossible and Bad Boys, Gay Tony has Luis at one point parachuting from a helicopter onto a glass-windowed skyscraper. Inside he blasts his way to his prey a few floors below and shoots his target, who then topples out of the bullet-ridden window. Luis dives out after him, wearing a parachute that glides him to safety.

In another scene, Luis drops on to the top of a moving subway train from a bridge and unhooks one of the cars for a maniacal high-rolling collector of one-of-a-kind artifacts. A Skyhook chopper airlifts the freed subway car away.

A man of action, Luis is torn between friends and family and his quest for power and riches. But as he climbs higher in Liberty City’s social circles, he discovers that the upper crust has some issues.

Gay Tony’s cast of out-of-control characters allowed Houser and the game designers to get in touch with their inner Michael Bay. “We definitely wanted it to feel more like the way action films are when they get ridiculous,” says Houser.

“Suddenly you’re lifting up train cars with helicopters and it looks amazing and ridiculous, and after what you’ve gone through in the past, you’re like, ‘wow, this is a really good payoff for completing this journey.’ “

Rockstar Games have also gave word that the reveal trailer for Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City, which will no doubt prominently feature Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony, will be online at 1:00 PM Eastern Standard Time on Tuesday, September 1st, 2009 (meaning 6 PM GMT; that’s 1:00 AM, Wednesday, September 2nd 2009, in Singapore).

This boxart features much artwork of the two episodes, with prominent figures such as Johnny Klebitz, Billy Grey, Luis Fernando Lopez and Tony Prince (Gay Tony) and a helicopter with a parachute in the background, advertising the new skydiving features of the upcoming Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony.

Rockstar Games have just announced that Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars will be released on the iPhone and iPod touch this fall (release date not confirmed yet), alongside the PSP version coming on October 20th. Rockstar Games will also release a version of Beaterator on the iPhone and iPod touch via the AppStore.

Rockstar Games have sent out to webmasters earlier today four screenshots of Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony, coming as an episodic downloadable content pack for Grand Theft Auto IV on Xbox LIVE or as part of Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City together with Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned.

These four screenshots are the first batch of screenshots to hit the internet, and also the first official ones to be released by Rockstar Games. As we can see, there is a mission that involves a new yacht, and probably skydiving as hinted by Rockstar Games’ earlier teaser as well as a playable demo at Las Vegas’ GameCrazy convention, as mentioned yesterday.

Rockstar Games have released, with the launch of their newly revamped website, two new wallpapers of Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony, one featuring Gay Tony and another featuring a currently unknown character.

They have also announced that a new trailer for Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City (which includes the upcoming Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony) will be released online on Tuesday September 1st, 2009, with the following teaser frame reel, showing what seems to be Luis Lopez, the protagonist, skydiving from a helicopter.

Also, over at the IGN video game boards, there is a thead about the GameCrazy convention held in the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, where a short demo of Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony was made playable. Two photos and some information were provided by the poster. Its authenticity is not confirmed by Rockstar Games, so take it with a pinch of salt for now.

“Mission #1:

Playing as Luis i got into this small helicopter equipped with a machine gun turret and rpg launcher with infinite ammo. Now the person running the demo skipped a bunch of the cutscenes and driving sequences by way of computer so i could only play the action and not see what the story was involved. But basically i took the helicopter of a big yacht in the middle of the ocean and flew towards the city, then i got a call from the owner of the yacht and he said to quickly come back and to destroy the yacht, it was under attack, so i flew the helicopter back to the yacht and began opening fire, now the helicopter is fun but a little difficult to manuever. i blew up the yacht and then had to destroy the remaining fleeing boats. i failed the mission but it was still fun.

edit: the helicopter WAS different than the normal attack helicopter, it was very small.

Mission #2:

again using the computer to immediatly skip all driving and cutscenes i started off high above algonquin in a helicopter with this guy named Tamir. I had to jump out and parachute on to this building, yes parachute. It was extremely fun and even better than saints row 2 and even san andreas. I landed on the roof and then had to infiltrate the building and kill a bunch of people. it was fun and hard and i had 3 new weapons, a hand held maching gun, its hard to explain but if you ever played goldeneye for n64 it looked alot like the rcp-90. a big like turret machine gun, and 2 i think satchel charges or mines, i didnt use them. I failed this mission too, but it was lots of fun parachuting an d using the new weapons.”

Also, seven new screenshots have been released via the official Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars of the PSP version. From the screenshots, we can see that the graphical user interface hasn’t changed much, except that the text is now more stylish and the lighting is more vibrant. Also textures are also at a significantly higher resolution with much clearer cutscenes.

Take Two Interactive has announced a new version of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, which will be rebuilt to cater for the PlayStation Portable. It will be available for PlayStation Portables of all models and will be released through the UMD (Universal Media Disc) and downloadable format through the PlayStation Network.

Rockstar has announced the second downloadable add-on for Grand Theft Auto IV. It will be titled “Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony”. Like the last episode, The Ballad of Gay Tony will be exclusive to Xbox 360 and will have a price of 1600 Microsoft points or $19.99.

“As Luis Lopez, part-time hoodlum and full-time assistant to legendary nightclub impresario Tony Prince (aka “Gay Tony”), players will struggle with the competing loyalties of family and friends, and with the uncertainty about who is real and who is fake in a world in which everyone has a price.”

Last Thursday, Rockstar Games have tweeted on their official Twitter account to say, “Details on 2nd episode of GTAIV downloadable content coming soon.” You can follow them on Twitter here. Official information has not been released thus far, but rumours have begun spreading. With the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2009 coming up soon in June, we expect more information to be revealed soon.

On Twitter, another user known as Game Fork has spreading rumours of the title, which he reckons will be “Blood and a Four Leaf Clover” and the release date will be some time close to Christmas 2009.

Over at the Rockstar Games Social Club, Rockstar Games has just released the “Mr. Wong’s Laundromat” Flash minigame in the Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars section. It’s certainly an honour to put this video up on our community spotlight this week, as the creator of this video, Mizemu, has done a spectacular job on this video, which will never cease to put smiles on people’s faces when they see the carnage caused. This video may not contain any of the signature stunts from BenBuja’s videos, but nevertheless, it’s still an amazing watch.

TIME honours Houser brothers:

Recently, TIME has been honouring special people in certain industries, and the Houser brothers – Sam and Dan Houser – has received such an honour for their achievements in the video games industry, through their website here.

Oh, Grand Theft Auto, what carnage have you wrought upon society? We can’t measure it in the copycat rampages its critics predicted, since few players ended up running wild in the streets, flamethrower-ing policemen and Lord-knows-what-ing prostitutes. No, the real damage is measured in the careers bazooka-ed, marriages Molotov-cocktailed and grade-point averages sent to sleep with the fishes. Because unlike theories about video games and violence, there is a proven connection between regular lives obliterated and the immersive addictiveness of Sam and Dan Houser’s universe. You just don’t want to leave their world.

The passion that these reclusive British brothers, 37 and 35, have brought to creating — no, inhabiting — Liberty City, San Andreas and Vice City has translated into games that offer quantum leaps in genre-defining fun. None of their video-game-industry imitators have even come close.

But what makes the Housers’ creation unparalleled is that their games have a take on American cultural history. A smart take. A take that solidifies the culture’s vision of its recent past. Was it a prominent film or book or record that defined how we look back on gang-era Los Angeles? No, it was a video game that uses movies, music and writing to a greater effect. Who better summarized and satirized the drug-dealing Miami of the ’80s? Or the New York City of now? The Housers are doing the work of Tom Wolfe, creating tapestries of modern times as detailed as those of Balzac or Dickens. At least, I assume that’s true. Instead of reading those guys, I’ve been in Liberty City stealing tanks.

For the record, only three Grand Theft Auto games with Liberty City as their primary setting had tanks in them – Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. Niko’s inability to man a tank has got nothing to do wth the statement.

Buducnost – Grand Theft Auto IV Machinima:

Buducnost is Serbian for the word, Futurity. Futurity means the quality of being future, or a future state.

My second effort at a video, took about 4 or so hours total (I think). The clips took quite a while to get because of the glitches in the video editor. Whatever. There were also lag problems with using FRAPS video capture program. Enjoy.

This week, we have Budu?nost by Ænemy, a forum member of GTAGaming, one of the better known Grand Theft Auto community sites on the internet. He has done a really good job in blending the music with the footage. The only quirk I have with the video is the framerate and the camera pauses. Disregarding these minor problems, this video is perfectly artistic. Give it a watch!

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars – Papercraft:

As a gift to Grand Theft Auto fans on Grand Theft Auto IV’s first year anniversary, Rockstar Games has released a series of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars-themed paperraft models on the Rockstar Games Social Club website. This is where anyone can download, print, and construct the various models available, from the Sabre GT and Hellenbach, accompanied by a display base, to a “pixel-perfect” representation of Huang Lee.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars – Bulletproof Hellenbach:

Besides a papercraft Hellenbach, owners of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars will be able to unlock an Exclusive Bulletproof Hellenbach through the Rockstar Games Social Club. To be able to do so, you must have a Rockstar Games Social Club account before May 8th, 2009, a copy of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, a Nitendo DS system, and then follow the instructions below.

1. Become a Social Club member before May 8, 2009 at 11:59 PM ET
2. Link your Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars Friend Code to your Social
Club account before the same date.
3. Sync your stats anytime after May 1, 2009 at 12:00 AM ET.
4. After you sync your stats, head to the car merchant in BOABO and it should be the last car in the list.
5. If you don’t see it, you may need to retry syncing your stats.

It’s April 29th, 2009 today, a year since Grand Theft Auto IV was officially released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3! Here, we shall all commemorate and celebrate Grand Theft Auto IV’s release anniversary! On this day, Grand Theft Auto IV broke sales records, as well as shocked and awed many fans worldwide.

Remember queueing up at midnight for your copy? Or, skipping school or work on the day to grab a copy? Or rather, sitting down with the copy of the game in your hands, excited to be playing it? How about the first time we all got to control Niko Bellic? Yes, it’s been a year, and it’s been a good time!

Personally, in the past year, I have clocked at least a few hundred hours on Grand Theft Auto IV, having completed 100% twice, the story thrice, and 98% of the achievements on the Xbox 360 and PC versions. I have created and published nine Grand Theft Auto IV videos in total on both the Rockstar Games Social Club and YouTube. Also, I have completed Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned 100%.

Right now, let all of us, as fans of the Grand Theft Auto series, celebrate this very fateful day Grand Theft Auto IV was released a year ago! Have a great time celebrating, pop in a disc and start playing! For all of you here, I would like to dedicate a song from “The Beat 102.7″ for this occasion, titled “We Celebrate” by Ghostface Killah.

Rockstar Games have just released their latest entry in a series of gameplay videos for Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, the last entry being released before the game’s release last month. I must say it’s intersting, haven’t being able to play the Multiplayer modes at all due to the lack of online multiplayer.

News in the Grand Theft Auto community has been flowing really slowly lately, but don’t worry, the blog’s still alive! We’re not dead and sitting at home staring at Kotaku 24/7. Well, that’s not the point. The point is, this is the first issue of “Grand Theft Auto Weekly”, a newsletter of Grand Theft Auto news that will be posted, well, on a weekly basis (check back during weekends!) during periods where there are little news to post and most things don’t deserve a full post.

To start things off with a bang, this week we have Patrick Brown’s artwork – which we will showcase here. His two recently released artwork pieces are illustrations of Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. The stuff we post here for this very first issue will be more than just this week’s news, though the headline says “this week’s news”. It’s because we have missed out on a couple of things from the past few weeks and I’m sure you guys don’t want to miss out on them too. Sorry! All happenings in the Grand Theft Auto community next week will absolutely be in the next issue!

Chinatown Wars sells a meagre 90,000 units in March:
I’m sure we all hate to read this. 90,000 units sold in less than a month may be a record breaker for a game that’s not Grand Theft Auto, but Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, one of the most impressive titles on the Nintendo DS, and the most critically-acclaimed, only sold this much.

Although Grand Theft Auto IV sold a whopping 6 Million units in the first week of sales, we’re sure Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars’ sales will continue to rise at a growing pace, as the Nintendo DS platform somewhat differs from the big brother consoles like the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Some of you here may have seen the “Mr Wong’s Laundromat” section in the Rockstar Games Social Club that was “coming soon”. Today, we found out that “Mr Wong’s Laundromat” will apparently be a web-based Flash mini-game. Powered by certain GameSpy technology, it was being mentioned on GameSpy’s site briefly.

“Once at the Rockstar Social Club, registered users can also play Flash games like Mr. Wong’s Laundromat to unlock additional cash that can be spent back in the game. GameSpy’s custom work links money earned out of game straight back into your in-game funds to spend on bigger guns and more ammo (and you can never have enough of that).”

A teaser on the Rockstar Games Social Club also mentioned about this upcoming feature, that will be interesting to see how it works. A release date for this feature is currently not announced, and as this is an unintentional leak on GameSpy’s part, we will see how this develops, and update you guys.

“These features are just the beginning for the Chinatown Wars section. We will be adding activities here that allow you to earn extra in-game cash as well as other special unlockables. Check back soon for more announcements.”

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars has already been out for more than a week, but some of you reading this might not have played it. Whatever the case is, I decided to do up a review for your reading pleasure – it was such a fun experience for me. I took quite some time to finish the story and several side-missions and then finally writing this review, so please excuse me for publishing this late.

You may expect that as a Grand Theft Auto fanatic – and being Chinese myself, I would be biased in my review of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. But, I’m going to choose the less ventured route. I’m going to be honest here. I’m not going to go ahead and give it a numerical score, but allow you to formulate your own opinion instead – I won’t even classify things as good or bad, save for some. If you have read Kotaku reviews, you will probably have an vague idea of how this is going to go about. Without further ado, let’s get into some reviewing frenzy, minus the political and capitalist agendas.

In a nutshell, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars summarises the great times we had with the Grand Theft Auto series thus far. Not only does it bring back the Grand Theft Auto series into its pseudo-three-dimensional top-down view and arcade experience, it also takes the best bits out of every Grand Theft Auto title released and weaved it into an experience unique only to Chinatown Wars.

If you liked the arcade driving and shooting experience from the original Grand Theft Auto, the pseudo-three-dimensional view from Grand Theft Auto 2, the sound effects, mechanics and music from the Grand Theft Auto III era of games; and the writing, setting, in-game technology (such as the improved map and E-Mail message system) and depth of Grand Theft Auto IV, then you will be pleased with Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars has also utilized the Nintendo DS-specific features very well. Although well executed and fun, it may be intrusive in some occasions, where you will stumble for your stylus and earn a maligned police wanted level instead. The new optional way of lowering your wanted level by disabling police cars, however, is fun. You cannot turn this feature off, though. Whether you may like it or not, it adds a whole new layer of detail into Liberty City and the game itself.

Those are not all that Rockstar Leeds has managed to deliver with Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, of course. A simple drug trading minigame not only brings a whole new realm of fun into the game, but also into the child-favourite platform that is the Nintendo DS, proving that the Nintendo DS is as capable as the PSP or the Xbox 360 in delivering quality video game content to a mature audience.

Also, the game has proved to be intricately detailed in every aspect – from pedestrian actions and reactions to the player, pedestrian chatter, sound bits and effects, weather effects, spam mail and even the litter on the sidewalk, to “swoosh” sounds that play when new icons appear on the minimap, which tell the player that you are near a certain landmark on your map.

Invariably, Grand Theft Auto games since the mark of the legend, Grand Theft Auto III, have always had deep plots, memorable characters, humorous dialogue and interesting plot twists. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars has managed to upkeep this tradition with a believable, Hollywood-style action-packed story about the Chinese Triads which has some very interesting plot twists in the end, as well as fun-filled and action-packed missions that make you want to replay those missions over again, which is possible with the new mission-replay feature – a nice addition to the game, I might add.

The music could easily be Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars’ achilles’ heel if not done properly. Rockstar Leeds, however, have done a decent job of adding five radio stations to the in-game radio with Electro, Funk, Rock, Rap and Reggae hitting the high notes of your Nitendo DS speakers – generally genres of music that sound great just with instrumentals.

The real achilles’ heel of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, however, comes in the combat and on-foot navigation. Without an analog stick, moving around on-foot with the D-Pad may be a hassle sometimes, and the ability jumping over obstacles is extremely limited to only cars, motorcycles, small props or short walls. The combat is also plagued by some auto-aim issues which still exist in Grand Theft Auto games today. Luckily, these small hipcups do not get into the way of gameplay very often.

While Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is not Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Stories, Grand Theft Auto IV Portable or Grand Theft Auto: Saints Row, it retains enough substance in the journey from the PC/consoles to the tiny dual screens that make it a game worth trying out, if not game-of-the-year substance.

So, here’s all I’ve got to review about Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. Verdict? Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is impressively fun and very addicting for a Nintendo DS game. I am not going to say anything more, as an internet reader like yourself should be able to formulate up your own opinions about this game, by means of various message board threads, blog comments or reviews, even if you haven’t bought it.

It’s been two days since Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars has been made available worldwide! A great deal of a Nintendo DS game it is, it features several cheat codes, just like any other Grand Theft Auto title released after Grand Theft Auto III, bar Advance. Of course, it also has it’s own unique goals to complete in order to achieve 100%.

Most of you would have already guessed by now that the requirements are “complete all missions, mini-games, stunt jumps and shoot all cameras”.
